Three club races were conducted over the July 10/11 weekend, at Falls Creek and Perisher. Here’s a quick sum up and link to results.
Snow Trek & Travel High Plains Tour – Falls Creek, July 10
The Snow Trek & Travel High Plains Tour was the first race to be held at Falls Creek since 2019. Over 70 skiers took part in the race distances of 1.0, 2.5, 5.0 and 10 kilometres.
In the 10km event recently returned Phil Bellingham was the first across the line ahead of Seve de Campo, with Kathy Ismail the first woman. In the 5km Anna Trnks took line honours, with Jack Lowman the first man. The 2.5km male and female winners were Beau Duggan and Evelyn Armitage, and the 1km winners were Oliver Brewergray and Scarlett Stroud.

Birkebeiner Classic – Falls Creek, July 11
Postponed from July 4, the Birkebeiner Classic also had a good field of around 50 entrants competing over 2.5, 5 and 10km distances.
In the 10km event Phil Bellingham picked up his second win of the season, while Ella Jackson claimed her first. In the 5km the victors were John Mordes and Casey Wright, while in the 2.5km it was Hamish Retchford and Sarah Marriott taking the win.

Cooma Clean Out The Wax Box – Perisher, July 11
The first of Cooma Ski Club’s races to get under way this winter, the Clean Out The Waxbox took place on Sunday July 11. Nominally a Classic race, a Skating race also snuck in under the radar.
According to the result list from Perisher XC, Emily Champion posted the fastest time in the 8km Classic, however an asterix denoted that the distance she completed needed to be checked. The next in the 8km ranking list was Bentley Walker-Broose over a minute and a half behind. In the 5km Classic Delan Burke posted the quickest time ahead of Jack Hirst, with Heli Laajoki the first woman. Zana Evans had the quickest 5km time, but on skates. In the 3km Claasic 27 seconds separated the first three, with Sean’hope Craig on top. Sarah Baxter was the quickest in the 1km Classic.
State Champs on July 17/18
Next weekend racing continues at both Perisher and Falls Creek with State Championships events – both Junior and Senior events north of the border, and Junior only in the south.
