Snow Australia and the Birkebeiner Nordic Ski Club (BNSC) would like to advise that the Australian Open Championship event at Falls Creek this coming July 31 / August 1 weekend has had to be postponed. The possibility to run this event later in the season is being investigated.
When the Victorian government state-wide lockdown restricted were lifted on Tuesday July 27 it at first appeared that the event, including the already postponed Victorian Junior Championship, would be able to proceed. Unfortunately the Covid-19 testing requirements to enter the resort (a negative test result within 72 hours of entry) were prohibitive for race officials to be able to run the events, particularly as the local Covid-19 testing centres were overloaded. Accommodation restrictions also made the situation challenging for prospective competitors.
As soon as any decisions about future event dates are made they will communicated to the cross country skiing community.
