Selection Criteria

National Team Selection

Selection to the National Team is based on results in World Cup, FIS international competition, and selection races in the Australian snowfields in July and August. To be eligible for a National Team an athlete must achieve two results of a required performance standard. The results can be any combination of distance, sprint or technique.

Where FIS Point results are required, results of the appropriate standard must have been achieved within the preceding 12 months. The full selection policies can be found here. The following summary of performance standards are valid for 2020/2021:

Women: 90 FIS Points

Men: 120 FIS Points
Women: 140 FIS Points

U23 Team*

National Selection Races
Distance: 10% behind the fastest Australian Open skier
Sprint: 7.5% behind the fastest Australian Open skier

National Junior Team*

National Selection Races
Distance: 10% behind the fastest Australian Junior skier
Sprint: 7.5% behind the fastest Australian Junior skier

* Athletes qualifying for the World Junior and U23 Championships via FIS points are also automatically selected. The full selections policies for each team should be read by all athletes aiming to qualify.


Selection for Major International Events

Selection for the Australian Winter Olympic Team and Youth Winter Olympic Team is made by the Australian Olympic Committee. Athletes seeking selection should read the full selection and nomination policies as published on the AOC and SSA website.

Selection of the Australian Teams for each of these international events are made by the National Selection Panel and the full policies are available here. In principle the selection standards are set prior to the Australian winter in the year preceding the championship.
