The Snow Australia Cross Country Committee (SAXC) would like to make the following statement regarding Australian Championship events scheduled in July and August.
The FIS Australian Open Championship and Continental Cup events scheduled for July 31 / August 1 at Falls Creek and August 7-8 at Perisher will proceed as planned, as long as local Covid-19 restrictions permit events to be held at those locations. In general all athletes taking part in any event must follow all rules set by the relevant state bodies, and follow all hygiene and distancing protocols set by race organisers.
SAXC acknowledges that Victorian border crossing restrictions and within-state travel restrictions may mean that a number of athletes will not be able to travel to the competition venues. These circumstances, as well as other performance factors, will be taken into consideration by the Selection Committee when determining selection for the 2021/2022 National Team and international events. Invitations for 2021/2022 teams are normally sent out at the end of September.
With respect to the FIS Australia / New Zealand Continental Cup, further discussions will take place within SAXC sub-committees regarding the status of the series.
Decisions regarding the Australian Junior Championships scheduled for Perisher on August 21/22 will be made in the coming weeks. If a hard border still exists between NSW and Victoria, then it may be that this event will no longer be able to be an official national championship. In these eventuality, SAXC will work with race organisers to try to provide racing opportunities in both NSW and Victoria on that weekend.
Online entries are already open for events at Perisher:
Registration is not yet open for the Australian Open events at Falls Creek, but will be available via Alpine Timing.
