High Performance Program

National Training Centre

During the Australian winter the Snow AUS XC High Performance Program centres around the National Training Centre at Falls Creek. Falls Creek has been the home of the National Team since 2004, and since 2011 there has been a dedicated National Training Centre Coach appointed annually. On-snow training camps are held at the end of June and September, while daily training is overseen throughout the winter by National Team coaches.

In addition to providing financial support for the National Team and a training base for the Australian winter, Falls Creek works closely with team staff and athletes to improve cross country skiing facilities and to promote the resort as a year-round altitude training and outdoor destination. When out on the trails give a big wave to the Falls Creek groomers who are doing their best to ensure that the tracks are in good shape.

Competitions of all levels are held at Falls Creek throughout the season, culminating with the Kangaroo Hoppet at the end of August.  For the latest information on snow and trail conditions via social media look for the tags #fallscreeksnow and #fallsxc tags, and for national team training and racing information follow the team at @ausxc or via the news section on this site.

Falls Creek is also increasingly becoming a training destination outside of the winter, with great opportunities for running and mountain biking, and national level running, triathlon, rowing and football teams using it for altitude training camps over the summer. Plans are underway for improved facility development at the Nordic Bowl which will enhance training possibilities year round.
